It may only be October, but it's never too early to get on the bauble and make some cute little decorations for the Christmas season! Do you have yarn scraps that you're not sure what to be doing with? This make might just be for you... I have had a great year crocheting, but am now finding that I have a bag of scraps that I couldn't find something to do with. Call me crazy, but I cannot wait for Christmas to come, so in the spirit of all things jolly, I had a wee search online to get some inspiration for some decoration ideas. I came across this wee gem, and just had to give it a go! You need very little for this make - nothing that you won't find lying in the cupboard! Grab your scraps, a cardboard tube (I find a toilet roll tube works best as it isn't too stiff to work with), some scissors, a pencil and a ruler. Some cellotape would come in handy too Measure up your tube in 1cm intervals, and cut along each line. You should get about 8 loops of cardboard out of a standard toilet roll tube, so your hat collection will gather up in no time. Don't worry about crushing the cardboard, the yarn will pull it back into shape I find the tube to be a bit too wide, so cut a 3cm section of it out, and stick it back together to form a smaller loop Cut your yarn into 8" lengths, but don't worry about being too precise with this. You'll need around 30 pieces, but this will depend on the yarn you use. Fold a length in half, wrap around the tube, and pull the ends through the loop of yarn Pull the loose ends to secure, with a little knot at one side of the cardboard loop. Continue with each piece of yarn until the cardboard is covered. Unfortunately there is no cheats way to do this part quicker. Don't worry, it will be worth it! When you have went the whole way around the circle, it should look a bit like this. Now push all the loose ends of yarn back on themselves through the cardboard loop Gather the ends of yarn together, and tie off. Trim any ends that look out of place, and attach a longer piece of yarn to create the hanger And there you have it... a super cute Christmas tree bauble made from your scraps of yarn! These will look amazing scattered over the tree. Why not make a collection of different colours, or try mixing colours of yarn in one hat?
